15th October 2022

On Saturday 15th. October, members of South Kesteven Amateur Radio Society activated GB1GDS for Grantham District Scouts as part of Jamboree on the Air.

Operating from the Dukes Covert Campsite at Ancaster, Stewart (M0SDM) along with Noah (M7DXH), Sean (2E0ENN) and Richard (G0OJF) were in attendance

Setting up was undertaken the previous night by Stewart, Noah and Sean amidst a huge downpour which soaked everyone. Stewart and Noah spent a cold and damp night camping on site. As usual Stewart took the Scouts motto “be prepared” literally and brought along far too much equipment.

HF and VHF stations were operated. Richard attended with his impressive “shack-in-a-van” and operated the VHF station. Morse training equipment was brought along as well as some PMR446 radios to keep the children occupied.

100 children attended with 24 contacts, the longest of which lasted 1hour and 15 minutes and involved speaking to 23 Cubs and Scouts.

A very good day was had by all with an invitation to do it all again next year.
