Field Day May 2025

We have had an influx of new members recently - these are there thoughts on the field day.

It was my first time transmitting on top band, and we were warmly welcomed on 1.942. I operated mainly on 40M and had contacts all over the country with good reports. There was a brief opening on 10m so I put up a dipole and worked a station in Oman and to my surprise then worked a station in Perth VK6. So for me the day was worth it for those contacts alone. Tiring but very rewarding

Having not long passed my foundation level exam; I really enjoyed the day.  I certainly learnt a lot, it was great to see the theory put into practice and what a difference altering the setup and changing the number of counter poises on a aerial make to the resonate frequency when tested using the analyzer. I was amazed at all of the different configurations that could be used to produce a working aerial on different frequencies and the distances achieved. What a great day, hope we can do it again sometime.

I think it's fair to say different people enjoyed different aspects of the day.  I was happy to dust my 12m mast off and get my 20m broom stick boomed dipole as high as possible, which resulted in working anumber of stations across Europe being worked. It was also good to demonstrate that a 40m dipole doesn't need to be high and that contacts can be made with the wire 8ft of the ground supported by garden canes.
